High-Precision TCXOs Targeted for Small Cell Applications

To accommodate the explosion in mobile data demands created by smart phones utilizing 3G or 4G wireless networks, small cell technology has been touted as one of the most cost-effective approaches to address this issue. Similar to macrocell base stations, small cell base stations require tight frequency accuracy to ensure seamless handovers between macrocells and small cells or femtocells for uninterrupted cellular service. Typically, the frequency accuracy needed for small cell application is 0.25ppm or better, and can be as tight as 0.1ppm over operating temperature ranges.
